For the past few years, Google has been promising 7 years of updates for its Pixel devices, starting with the Pixel 8 series. That’s great, but let’s be honest, the hardware won’t last that long. At some point, you’ll definitely need a new battery, probably a screen replacement, and maybe some other parts replaced.
This is why, with the Pixel 11 series, Google has also stepped up its spare parts support. So you’ll also be able to buy parts for your Pixel 11 phone to swap in when needed, for the next 7 years. This is not limited to just one or two markets, but all markets that the phones are sold in.
While this might not matter to you if you take your phone in somewhere to get a part replaced or get it fixed. But it does mean that those stores are able to get these parts, years from now, and keep your phone going. With the current RAM crisis, this is also a pretty big deal.
The average phone upgrade cycle is now nearly 4 years
Now that phones have matured, most people are not upgrading often. In fact, the average upgrade cycle is over 3.5 years. Which is what makes this news even more important. That means there are a ton of people that keep their phones for 4, 5, 6, even 7 years, sometimes longer (I know someone who just upgraded from the iPhone X a few months ago, that phone launched in 2018).
During that time, you’ll probably need a battery replacement. As we know, Pixel phones aren’t great with battery life, and once it starts to degrade, it can really affect your experience. You don’t want to be connected to an outlet all day, after all it is a wireless phone. So being able to replace that battery in a couple of years is huge.
