Notability is officially expanding beyond the Apple ecosystem. Developer Ginger Labs has launched a fully native Android app on the Google Play Store, bringing one of the world’s most popular note-taking platforms to millions of new tablets, phones (including foldables), and Chromebooks.
Instead of porting over a web-based version, the engineering team built the app from scratch specifically for the Android OS. The release focuses heavily on natural pen performance, leveraging low-latency drawing paths and predictive touch so stylus input feels instant on mobile and tablet displays.
S Pen support and playful features
The Android app directly incorporates feedback from early beta testers to optimize modern tablet workflows. It features native support for the Samsung S Pen button to switch quickly to the eraser, alongside intra-document PDF linking, custom paper templates, and quick-note shortcuts that allow users to jot down ideas straight from their device’s lock screen.
The release also introduces fun, Android-exclusive ink styles like rainbow and glitter pens alongside standard handwriting and shape recognition. Full keyboard, mouse, and stylus input are supported, making the layout adaptable whether you write on a tablet or type on a larger screen.
Built-In AI and audio transcription
Beyond digital ink, the Android launch emphasizes integrated artificial intelligence through a suite called Notability Learn. Rather than acting as a simple chatbot overlay, the system works directly with your handwritten and recorded content to generate automatic study guides, flashcards, and quizzes.
The app also allows live audio recording with instant text transcription. This lets users search through their spoken notes or have the AI give quick explanations during lectures and meetings.
Multi-device sync and availability
Cross-platform workflows remain a key part of the release. Notability on Android allows for real-time cloud sync between Android and non-Android devices, enabling team members, students, or collaborators to work on shared notes across different hardware configurations. Users can also access the Notability Gallery to download over 20,000 community-created templates.
The app is available now on the Google Play Store and through Notability’s official site. Lastly, there are options for both subscription plans and one-time purchases.
