T-Mobile suffered a major outage last week. One that lasted for a few hours, leaving many users without a network. While that’s disappointing, it could be beneficial, as it may net you some cash. T-Mobile is reportedly offering compensation (of sorts) ranging from $10 to $80 for the service outage. But it requires you reaching out to the company’s customer support.
T-Mobile’s network outage could get you some compensation
To recall, T-Mobile suffered an outage on July 27, reportedly affecting more than 470,000 subscribers. Users were just seeing “SOS” in the status bar. As per Downdetector, it lasted over six hours. Users complained on Reddit about how they were unable to make phone calls, send texts, and use cellular data on their devices. Well, after a long wait, the service was finally back online.
As you’d expect, T-Mobile offered a usual apology and didn’t go into details as to what caused this outage in the first place. It didn’t mention any compensation to those affected. But some users report they had to contact the company to get it.
But you’ll have to ask for it
If you’re one of those who got affected by the T-Mobile outage, there’s some good news. If you contact T-Mobile’s customer care team, you may be able to request a bill credit that will be applied to your account for the inconvenience. The easiest way probably is through the T-Life app. That said, the credit amount varies, with some customers reporting a $10 credit, while one user received up to $80 spread across the next six months. While that’s generally a good initiative from T-Mobile, it’s becoming common these days.
Despite the carrier’s claims of bringing back the service, it seems there have been some lingering issues. As per Downdetector, there were hundreds of reports, with 36% related to 5G Home Internet and 26% involving mobile phone service.
