Google is expected to show off the Pixel 11 Pro and a few other new phones on August 12, and among the new features that are already gaining popularity is the rear RGB LED light that has no official name as of yet. At least not one that has been confirmed by Google itself. Affectionately called Pixel Glow by the community thus far, the RGB light on the back of the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold is catching people’s attention.
Once upon a time, many phones came with notification LEDs on the front that could be customized to show a specific color for each notification. This, like ringtones do for users, would make it easier to tell what the notification was from without having to wake the display. It hasn’t been confirmed what this new Pixel Glow light does, or if it’s even along those lines. A new rumor has popped up though that claims to know what Google plans to officially call this feature. It isn’t Pixel Glow.
The name of the Pixel 11 Pro RGB light isn’t Pixel Glow, it’s ‘HiLight’
It’s worth reiterating that Google has not yet confirmed or even teased a name for this feature yet. But as always, that isn’t stopping rumors, leaks, and claims from trying to shed some light on the situation. According to software engineer Dylan Roussel on X, Google isn’t going to call this Pixel Glow. Instead, Roussel is claiming that the name will be ‘HiLight.’
Roussel doesn’t mention anything other than the name, such as reasoning behind the name or anything like that. Google hasn’t actually explained what the light does, but it has teased it in a recent video that was published on the Made by Google YouTube back at the end of July.
