The Android phone setup process has been simplified by Google quite a bit over the years and it’s quite streamlined for users with Google walking you through the whole thing, but Google is reportedly looking to make it even simpler by preparing a Gemini AI assistant function that make things even more convenient.
Google’s new Gemini-powered Android phone setup process was discovered in the most recent version of the Google Play Services beta, which is version 26.30.31. At the moment this is not something that Google has officially rolled out, but the report mentions that certain functions of the new help tool are visible and that Google’s planning for this tool to do quite a bit. For example, it can provide real-time guidance during the setup process.
Google’s Gemini Android phone setup function can give you tailored recommendations
A big part of Gemini is how it’s capable of tailoring content to you in a number of different ways. According to Android Authority, the Gemini setup process will be able to give users tailored recommendations. For example, it can recommend apps to install like Google News, Waze, and NotebookLM. It can also reportedly recommend that you set up a recovery phone number and a recovery email.
In addition to the guided setup and the tailored recommendations it can make to users, it looks like users will be able to ask Gemini questions during the process should they have questions that are related to whatever step they’re on. What’s more is that this Ask Gemini option is said to appear on every single screen. So users can ask questions through the entire process if they have them.
As with the current setup process, there will be a screen for setting up Google Wallet, but with Gemini assistance this time around. This feature isn’t part of the setup process just yet.
