This whole story of Mercedes-Benz getting kicked out of the US market started off rather boringly earlier this year, when the US Senate Commerce Committee recently approved legislation to toughen a government ban on Chinese automakers entering the American market. According to Senator Ted Cruz, the bill’s provision would ban companies with more than 15% ownership by Chinese entities. Mercedes is close to 20% right now.
