The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra were announced last week, and we’re finding out new details about the devices by the day. This time around, a new Google-related change was spotted in One UI 9.
Samsung added a built-in Google Search bar to One UI 9, though it’s just an option
Samsung has added a built-in Google Search bar to the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s home screen in One UI 9. Don’t worry, it’s not a persistent one, as it was the case with Pixel devices for years. It no longer is, but still… it’s worth noting.
If you like having the Google Search bar on your home screen, and specifically above the app dock on the bottom, you can now enable it in the launcher’s settings.
Yes, you can still manually add a widget wherever you want on the screen, if you’d prefer to have it elsewhere. Samsung simply added this built-in option that can be enabled via a toggle as well.
In order to enable it, you’ll need to open One UI Home launcher’s Settings section and then go to ‘Show search on home screen’. From there, you can enable the Search toggle.

Now, what’s interesting is that this option is not available on the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at the moment, only the two Fold devices. Neither of those devices has the final retail software build, so that could change by the time the phones go on sale on August 12.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, which is on One UI 9.0 Beta 4, doesn’t have this option as well. That will likely change too, once the stable One UI 9 build lands on that device.
