If you’re someone that uses Android Auto as your car’s main infotainment platform while driving, you might be one of several users who experience frequent software crashes. The good news is that Google is rolling out a fix for Android Auto to address those crashes.
Google rolling out Android Auto crashes fix
According to the post on Reddit, some users on Android Auto 17.2.662404 were experiencing frequent crashes. Thankfully, it seems that Google did not wait too long to issue a fix for these Android Auto crashes.
In a comment by Mishaal Rahman, it looks like the update is rolling out as we speak. “I wanted to let you know that we’re rolling out an update to Android Auto that should address the disconnecting issue you’ve been facing. For transparency, we identified an issue with uncertified aftermarket head units that impacted a small number of people during our rollout of Android Auto 17.2.”
For those who are running the beta version, make sure you’ve updated to the latest release which is version 17.3.662813. For those on the stable version, you should update to version 17.2.662638.
What was happening?
For those unfamiliar, earlier this month there were reports from Android Auto users who were experiencing frequent crashes following the latest update. One of the issues was Android Auto crashing almost immediately after it was launched, thus returning users to the car’s native infotainment system.
Users also experienced frequent disconnections after almost every action. We’re talking about opening maps or controlling media playback. This forced some users to downgrade to the previous stable version. We get how this is annoying. When you’re driving, the last thing you should be doing is fiddling with your car’s infotainment system.
With these crashes, users will have to constantly stop and fiddle with the system. This is dangerous, especially if you’re relying on it for navigation. We’re not sure if the latest update will fix those issues once and for all. However, if this has been bugging you, then it might be a good idea to update.
