In Ookla’s latest State of the Mobile Union report, where it is testing all three major carriers around the country, Verizon continues to show why it’s number one. Verizon won or tied in 6 categories, the most of any carrier – AT&T had 5, and T-Mobile had 2.
Verizon is continuing to shine nationwide in this report, tying for overall performance and network reliability with AT&T, while also outright winning network responsiveness, data performance, and video performance.
While Verizon did win the most awards, T-Mobile still has the fastest median download speeds for the first half. T-Mobile came in at 392Mbps, Verizon at 302Mbps, and AT&T at 228.7Mbps. A bit surprising given all of the mmWave that Verizon has deployed across the country. But remember, mmWave is not available everywhere, primarily only in very dense areas. Think of stadiums, malls, downtown areas. All three carriers did show improvement in speed from the 2H 2025 report, however.
Breaking it down on a State and Metro level
Ookla also breaks it down on a State level, which shows that Verizon is still kicking butt there too. With 321 awards across all the categories, with its lowest score being 31 out of 50 States. AT&T also did very well with a score of 260, though its lowest score was 21.
T-Mobile, however, shows that it still has work to do, especially out in the country, with quite a few categories being in single digits. It won just 3 States in the Call category, which is pretty sad.
Finally, let’s talk about Metropolitan areas. Verizon dominated here, particularly with areas over 200Mbps, which it tied with T-Mobile here, and AT&T was lagging behind. T-Mobile continued to show that metro areas is where it shines. But when you put all three categories together, T-Mobile does fall behind Verizon and AT&T pretty substantially.
