Back in May, Google released a major new update for Snapseed, its image editing application. That was the Snapseed 4.0 update, which arrived with a brand new UI and new features. Since then, Google has been adding new options, including the one we’ll talk about now. Snapseed’s 4.1 update has now landed.
This is the first big update for the app since the redesign. One-tap camera access was added back in May, while new grid lines and level tools were added at the beginning of this month.
Snapseed 4.1 update brings new RAW editing options to the table
Well, the new Snapseed 4.1 update brings support for the “vast majority of RAW formats and cameras,” which include DNG, ARW, RAF, NEF, CR3, ORF, and PEF formats. Google also says that the expanded format support involved “improving image processing” and “ironing out corner cases.”
Google also noted that a “few formats aren’t quite there yet,” but despite that, the company decided to push the update now. The company also warned that some bugs might pop up despite the testing that Google did, as “RAW processing is tricky.”
If you thought that was about it as far as this update is concerned, well… that’s not the case. This update also lets you undo and redo edits directly within tools. You no longer have to exit to the main editor screen.
Undo and Redo options have been improved as well… kind of
Google notes that “most actions can now be undone or redone while editing within your favorite tools.” That’s about it as far as changes in this update are concerned. Those of you who love editing RAM images will love these changes, that’s for sure.
Do note that Snapeed 4.1 launched for Android only now. The iOS update is coming in the near future. This update is rolling out in stages, so if it’s not available via the Google Play Store just yet, be patient.
