It feels like a brand-new artificial intelligence model debuts every other afternoon. However, the team at SpaceXAI is taking a slightly different approach with its latest release. Instead of just chasing a higher spot on the leaderboard, the company is focusing heavily on making heavy-duty AI automation far cheaper and faster for professionals. Meet Grok 4.5, a highly efficient model built specifically to handle complex coding, document creation, and spreadsheet math.
The release marks the first major software launch from SpaceXAI since the company went public and integrated the recently acquired AI coding platform, Cursor. Rather than operating as a simple consumer chatbot, this model aims to function as an enterprise workhorse. It helps reduce the tedious back-and-forth prompting usually required to finish a project.
Fewer prompts, continuous workflows
If you have ever used an AI tool to write code or draft a presentation, you know how repetitive the cleanup process can be. The initial draft rarely hits the mark, forcing you to feed the software multiple corrections. Grok 4.5 addresses this bottleneck by attempting to execute complex, multi-layered requests in a single workflow.
For developers, the model works with advanced languages like Rust and C++. SpaceXAI claims it can build working applications from scratch using basic text instructions. The system brings similar multitasking upgrades to office tools, too. Instead of making you jump between separate platforms, Grok 4.5 can generate multi-sheet Excel files complete with functional formulas, write up explanatory notes, and simultaneously build corresponding PowerPoint presentations with custom layouts.
An aggressive push for price efficiency
Internal testing shows that Grok 4.5 falls just short of the absolute largest frontier models. Still, its real competitive advantage lies in operational efficiency. Writing on X, Elon Musk described the software as an “Opus-class model,” comparing its capabilities to Anthropic’s reasoning-heavy Claude Opus family but with significantly faster processing speeds.
SpaceXAI claims the model achieves twice the token efficiency of its peers. This allows the company to aggressively undercut the current market on price. Grok 4.5 costs just $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens. For context, Anthropic’s comparable Opus models run anywhere from $5 to $25 per million tokens, while OpenAI’s top-tier options cost roughly $5 for inputs and $30 for outputs. This makes Grok an incredibly attractive option for developers and corporate clients managing massive data volumes.
The launch lands during a truly busy week for the AI industry. OpenAI rolled out of its own advanced models, while Anthropic finally got the green light to restore public access to Fable 5. Currently, Grok 4.5 is live as the standard model inside Grok Build, available across all premium Cursor subscription tiers, and accessible through the company’s official developer console. A regional rollout for users in the European Union remains on hold for now, though.
The Android Headlines Take
Recently, stricter usage limits or higher prices for accessing premium models have characterized the AI industry. We’ve seen countless complaints about the latest tweaks in how Google calculates the user computing quota for Gemini. Plus, Anthropic moved Claude Fable 5 to a pay-per-use approach, even for paid accounts. So, the launch of an AI model focused on delivering reliable performance at a lower cost is somewhat refreshing.
The rising cost of accessing premium AI has been seen mainly in Western companies. This has led many to try Chinese alternatives like DeepSeek, which also offers significant computing power at a low cost. The arrival of Grok 4.5 could bring back many of those users looking for the best value for money for their professional projects. In the current scenario, being the fastest and cheapest option can often be just as valuable as being the smartest.
If you are a developer and have an X account, you can now take a look at upgraded Grok to see if it fits your needs.
