Samsung could finally upgrade the selfie camera on its flagship smartphone series. According to a new report. Two out of four smartphones will get an improved selfie camera once the Galaxy S27 series drops next year.
At least two Galaxy S27 phones will get a proper selfie camera upgrade
The information comes from the GalaxyClub, and it’s said that the two most powerful models, the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra, will get a selfie camera upgrade.
The source says that a new 16-megapixel camera will be used. It’s also said that the source of the information believes that a square sensor will be used, which will bring the camera on the same level as the iPhone 17 series in that regard.
As a reminder, the entire Galaxy S26 series has a 12-megapixel selfie camera, with a 1/3.2-inch sensor size. We’re hoping that this new camera will also increase the sensor size. That is not mentioned in the report.
Do note that the Galaxy 27 and Galaxy S27+ could also get a selfie camera upgrade, but that’s not clear at the moment. It’s not ruled out, though, which are good news. Samsung could end up bringing this sensor to all phones.
As a reminder, all four smartphones are expected to arrive in Q1 next year. That will most likely happen in either January or February, we cannot be sure. The Galaxy S27 Pro is the new phone in the series.
The Android Headlines Take
Samsung has been using that 12-megapixel selfie camera since 2023, on the Galaxy S23 series of phones. It’s about time for the company to improve it, and we’ll finally get our wish next year. 4 years is more than enough for that sensor.
If it ends up being a square camera sensor, even better, we sure hope it will be. That will give you far more freedom as to how the phone is oriented when you’re taking the picture. You won’t have to think whether it’s oriented one way or the other.
