AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile dominate the US carrier scene. These three companies are essentially the biggest carriers in the US right now, and as such, they usually have more of a say in how much they want to charge you. But if you’re looking to save some money, it looks like Mint Mobile has a new unlimited plan that could save you quite a bit.
Mint Mobile unlimited plan has big savings
Currently, Mint Mobile is running a promotion in which it is offering all of its plans for $15 a month. Yes, you read that right, all of its plans. This means if you want to sign up for a Mint Mobile 6GB plan, 17GB plan, 23GB plan, or unlimited plan, they’re all $15 a month. So obviously going unlimited is the best value option right now.
It essentially works out to be $180 for the entire year. Considering that T-Mobile has essentially forced customers on older/legacy plans to move to newer and more expensive ones, $180 a year is an outright steal.
Does it sound too good to be true? In a way, yes. This promotion is basically good for an entire year, meaning that for the next 12 months, you only need to pay $15 a month. After that, though, the price reverts back to its regular price. For the unlimited plan, that’s $30 a month, which means $360 a year. The 17GB plan is priced at $20 a month, while the 23GB plan goes for $25 a month.
However, you can take advantage of this offer and save yourself some money, at least for the first year. After that, you’re free to switch to a cheaper plan.
One thing to note
That being said, one thing you should know is that Mint Mobile is an MVNO. This is compared to AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile, which are more traditional carriers. The difference is that these major carriers own and operate the cell towers, spectrum, and overall infrastructure. MVNOs essentially rent a space on their networks.
For the most part, day-to-day usage shouldn’t be too different. However, during peak usage or when the network’s particularly busy, carrier customers usually get dibs on bandwidth. This means that for MVNO customers, you could experience slightly slower speeds. You also don’t get as many perks or discounts compared to traditional carriers.
However, if you already have your own phone and just need a plan that lets you make calls and go on the internet, MVNOs are a good alternative.
