Apple is apparently planning to manufacture around 10 million iPhone Ultra units this year. That’s higher than the previous forecast of around 7 to 8 million units a few months ago. That might sound like a lot, but when you think about it, it’s a fraction of the number of units that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will have.
Apple has booked parts for roughly 80 million smartphones in the second half of 2026. This includes the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the new iPhone Ultra. Of course, this number also includes manufacturing of other iPhones that are already announced and available, like the iPhone 17 and 17e. Apple is expected to manufacture over 220 million units in 2026 alone.
Producing 10 million iPhone Ultra units is quite astonishing, especially given the current memory crisis, which is likely going to push the price of this phone well above $2,500 or more. But, as we’ve seen in the past, iPhone users will pay the higher prices that Apple charges, like when the iPhone X launched as the first $999 smartphone, years ago. It quickly became one of the most popular phones in the world.
It’s being reported that Apple has solved the issues with the iPhone Ultra hinge, and the device will start going through mass production this month. Just in time for a September launch.
The Android Headlines Take
10 million is a big number. Samsung only manufactured around 400,000 units of the original Galaxy Fold, after it had to be recalled. And the Galaxy Z TriFold only had around 300,000 units manufactured. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 was one of Samsung’s most popular foldable phones, breaking all kinds of records, and it still has sold nowhere near 10 million.
But this is Apple. This is a company that routinely sells around 30 million iPhones during the launch weekend every year. So 10 million for the rest of the year is not that crazy. That’s just how much volume Apple sells every year. So the iPhone Ultra might still be pretty scarce, especially at launch.
