The next big thing in tech seems to be smart eyewear, or as some companies are now calling it ‘intelligent eyewear’. In the first quarter of 2026, around 3 million units were shipped globally, growing about 54% year-over-year. Smart Analytics Global believes that 22 million units will be shipped in 2026, and over 40 million in 2027. Showing that this is a growing market, and it’s growing exponentially.
Smart eyewear is broken down into three types of devices. You have the AI Smart Glasses, which are the majority of the market, mostly because of their price points. This includes the Meta Glasses, which currently have about 81% of the market, with Rokid and Xiaomi coming in with 5% each.
Then there are AR Glasses, which are a much smaller market but also more competitive. It’s just 6% of the smart eyewear market, with RayNeo grabbing 30%, XREAL at 25%, and Viture at 18%. Finally, there’s VR, which claims about 15% of the smart eyewear market. This is a shrinking market, actually, but Meta does have the majority here thanks to its purchase of Oculus back in 2014, at 62%. Followed by Sony at 16% and Pico at 10%. Interesting that the most popular VR headsets are not even appearing in this report – Apple Vision Pro and Samsung Galaxy XR.

The Android Headlines Take
AI Smart Glasses will likely be the growth driver for this sector for quite some time. A big reason for that is the lower price point. Meta Glasses were just announced last week, which start at just $299. While AR Glasses typically start at $499, with the better ones costing closer to $999.
Although I fully expect that AR Glasses will explode in the next year, with many more options hitting the market, like the Android XR-powered XREAL Aura, which is launching this fall.
