More shuffling is going on over at OnePlus, realme, and OPPO these days. With realme CEO Michael Guo having reportedly quit amid the restructuring. This is leading to OnePlus becoming more of a product line under OPPO, versus a sub-brand.
The rumor mill still believes that Guo’s departure is because of the major revamps that would see realme and OnePlus brands become part of OPPO. Though a spokesperson from realme says its due to “certain health reasons”.
A realme India spokesperson said, “We confirm that Michael Guo has stepped down from his role as the Representative Head overseeing the business of India at realme brand due to certain health reasons. The company respects his decision and extends its sincere appreciation for his valuable contributions to the business, including the India territory during his tenure.”
Guo was overseeing OnePlus’ India operations; now it’s going to be left up to Chase Xu, a vice president within realme who has been very vocal on social media around realme launches.
OnePlus is slowly winding down
Since the initial reports of OnePlus closing down surfaced back in January, we’ve seen a lot of changes behind the scenes. For instance, as someone who works with OnePlus to get review units and such, I’ve noticed very little talk from OnePlus USA. Typically, in the first half of the year, we would hear about a new watch and a new tablet being announced. That’s not the case this year. Additionally, some PR people from OnePlus USA have moved on to new companies, and the PR firm that worked with OnePlus USA is no longer representing them.
This shows that OnePlus is slowly winding down in some markets, like the US. But with more and more higher-ups opting to leave the company as a whole, it’s becoming apparent that this isn’t just OnePlus leaving the US.
We’ve heard that OnePlus is planning to leave the US and Europe by the end of the year, while remaining in India to sell mid-range and budget devices, with its high-end devices being available only in China. So far, that all seems to be very accurate. But we’ll have to wait and see when it comes to the OnePlus 16 launching this Fall.
