Android 17 just rolled out on June 16 and while it is a stable build, that hasn’t stopped bugs from popping up for Pixel device users, with a new bug causing problems with the touch input. For some users, the touchscreen is not working as it should be and the problem seems to be impacting devices as old as the Pixel 7. This comes just as some other users are experiencing problems with using Google apps on Wi-Fi.
While it’s not impacting every user, some on the Google Pixel subreddit have reported the problem on the Pixel 10, Pixel 9, Pixel 8, and Pixel 7 series phones. This suggests it’s a fairly widespread problem and not just limited to a small subset of users. According to one user, for example, the touch input will sometimes register up to 5 swipes on YouTube Shorts, but then it will stop registering touch input for a few seconds.
Google is aware of the Android 17 touch input bug
Unlike some of the other bugs that have surfaced, it seems like Google is aware of the touch input bug that Android 17 is causing for some users. The PixelCommunity account on Reddit has reportedly replied to one of the threads. There’s good and bad news here with this. Google has said that a potential fix could come from clearing the cache in the Pixel Launcher app. This might work. However, one user has stated that this was attempted and the issue persisted regardless.
For now, it sounds there isn’t a definite fix for the bug, though Google is at least working on it. Another possible fix could come from disabling the Smooth Display feature. Though users may end up with varying results on this fix as well. This seems like a pretty impactful bug that drastically interferes with how you would use your device. So hopefully this is a bug that Google finds a fix for soon.
