If you can believe it, gas prices in the early summer of 2026 are actually not the highest they’ve ever been in the United States. Four years ago, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) tracked the national average at a whopping $5.03 per gallon in June 2022. At the start of June in 2026, we’re at $4.61, which is the highest it’s been since the summer of 2022, but not quite record-setting.
