With the 2027 model year comes a round of updates for Mercedes-AMG’s top-tier performance SUVs. The GLE 63 S and GLS 63 are being given a more aggressive styling, some chassis work and a V8 with sharper technology. Both of them in the fall of 2026.

While the figures on the spec sheet remain the same – 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque – there is plenty new under the hood of the 2027 models. They are now fitted with the M177 EVO 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. It has been put through an extensive reworking with a flat-plane crankshaft, new turbo hardware, revised intake cam and optimized fuel injection. The intent is to make for better response and efficiency in line with global emissions rules without sacrificing output.
You will also find a 48-volt mild-hybrid setup with an integrated starter generator mated to the V8. This not only eases start/stop but can provide as much as 23 hp and 151 lb-ft of help at lower revs and handle recuperation when you slow down.

In terms of straight-line speed, AMG puts the 0–60 time for the GLE 63 S at 3.6 seconds and the GLS 63 at 3.9, with an electronic limiter capping things at 174 mph. To get that power to the ground, there is a 9-speed Speedshift TCT automatic and the Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive. A locking rear differential is standard to put more torque where the grip is.
The new AMG Performance exhaust lets you have your say on the soundtrack; it can be kept quiet in Comfort or made to bark in Sport+ thanks to its adjustable valves. And if you look at the front end, the new grille and larger intakes give these SUVs a very distinct AMG presence, while the quad tips and diffuser at the back leave no doubt about their purpose.

Chassis upgrades are equally important here. Both come with Ride Control+ air suspension and active roll stabilization as part of the package. In Trail mode the ride height goes up for off-roading, but in Sport it will drop for handling. According to AMG, the system’s sensors are scanning the road up to 1,000 times a second to keep body roll in check.
Step inside and the mix of luxury and performance is still there. You have the new MB.OS infotainment with its AMG displays for G-force and other data, Nappa leather and the latest steering wheel with drive unit controls. There are Manufaktur paint and interior choices as well as new wheels, running as large as 23 inches on the GLS.
It is an evolutionary step for the 2027 GLE 63 S and GLS 63 rather than a revolution, but with the revised V8 and hybrid tech they should hold their own against what BMW M, Porsche and Audi Sport have to offer. We will have to wait until the launch in 2026 for pricing.
