A frustrating new Gemini call bug is making the rounds online, leaving a growing number of users completely unable to make phone calls through standard voice commands. While the problem first drew significant attention from drivers behind the wheel, the headache extends far beyond the dashboard.

According to multiple reports, the trouble starts when you try to initiate a standard hands-free call. Instead of dialing your contact, the AI assistant simply stalls out. An unhelpful error message reading “Something went wrong. Please try again” pops up on screen, cutting off the connection before it even begins.
As publications like Android Authority point out, standard troubleshooting fixes like wiping your app cache, deleting local data, or rebooting your vehicle’s infotainment deck do absolutely nothing to resolve the glitch. Interestingly, while initial reports focused heavily on the driving interface, the issue is actively impacting standard mobile setups too.

Temporary workarounds and system rollbacks
With the core functionality broken, frustrated users are finding themselves forced to step backward to keep their devices working. Swapping your primary digital assistant back to the traditional, older Google Assistant template seems to instantly fix the problem, serving as the most reliable temporary patch for now. Alternatively, some individuals report that rolling back your application suite by uninstalling the latest automated update can also bring your dialing privileges back to life.
Google has not yet publicly commented on what is causing the system to reject basic voice dial actions. Hopefully, the development team can deploy an over-the-air patch quickly. After all, losing the ability to make simple, hands-free phone calls turns a highly advanced digital companion into an expensive distraction—which can be especially unsafe behind the wheel.
