
We’re back to comparing Samsung’s Galaxy A devices. This time around, we have two quite affordable ones. This is a Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A17 comparison. There is a $100 difference in their price tags, at least based on their launch prices. Is the Galaxy A37 worth paying out that extra $100 for? Well, we’ll hopefully be able to help you make that decision in this article.
As we usually do, we will first list the specs of both smartphones. Following that, we’ll talk about their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output. There are some similarities between them, but also quite a few differences to note. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A17: Design
As you can see, the general design language between these two phones is quite similar. Both of them include flat displays, though the Galaxy A37 has thinner bezels. On top of that, it has a small camera island centered at the top. The Galaxy A17 includes a display notch up top, which is also centered. The “chin” at the bottom of the Galaxy A17 is quite noticeable and another differentiating factor here.
Both smartphones include flat frames. Both frames are also made out of plastic, not aluminum. The Galaxy A37 includes glass on its back, while there’s plastic on the back of the Galaxy A17. The power/lock button sits on the right side of both phones, right below the volume up and down buttons.
On the back, you’ll notice flat backplates, along with a pill-shaped camera island. Both phones include a vertical camera island with three cameras on the inside. Those camera islands do protrude on the back. The Galaxy A17 is slightly taller, slightly narrower, and basically the same thickness as the Galaxy A37. It is also 4 grams lighter than the Galaxy A37, but that’s not something you’ll notice.
Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A17: Display
The Samsung Galaxy A37 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display. That display is flat, and it has a 120Hz refresh rate. Its peak brightness is 1,900 nits, while the screen-to-body ratio is at around 87%. The resolution you’ll get to use here is 2340 x 1080 pixels, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus+ protects the display.

The Samsung Galaxy A17, on the other hand, has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. That display is also flat, and it has a slightly lower peak brightness than the Galaxy A37’s panel. The resolution is the same at 2340 x 1080, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus is here to protect the display.
Both of these displays are alright, though nowhere near the best panels out there. The Galaxy A37 does have the edge thanks to a higher refresh rate, which is something we noticed during use, but we are used to 120Hz displays, so… that’s not a surprise. The Galaxy A37’s panel is brighter, while both displays offer good viewing angles. Touch response is also quite good on both displays.
Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A17: Performance
The Samsung Exynos 1480 fuels the Galaxy A37. That is Samsung’s 4nm chip, and one of its more budget-oriented chips. It is backed by 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash storage. Do note that the storage on this smartphone is not expandable, so be careful when choosing between 128GB and 256GB options.
The Samsung Galaxy A17, on the other hand, is fueled by the Exynos 1330 chip. That is a 5nm chip, and it’s inferior to the Exynos 1480. It is combined with 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM inside the phone. The device also comes with UFS 2.2 flash storage, which is expandable in this case.
Neither of these two devices offers outstanding performance. The Galaxy A37 is better in that regard, though. It is more fluid during day-to-day use, and it also does a better job with games, even though we wouldn’t recommend you play more demanding titles on either phone. All in all, you need to manage your expectations here, as both of these smartphones are budget devices, and they can’t offer the same level of performance as flagship phones.
Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A17: Battery
Samsung is using the same battery pack in these two smartphones. A 5,000mAh battery is being used, as the company still hasn’t switched to silicon-carbon tech. Neither phone offers great battery life, but the Galaxy A37 does a better job in that regard. It can provide up to around an hour of extra screen-on time, on average. Do note that intense use will get you to charge them before the end of the day, though.
Gaming and camera use are the main power drainers, along with the display, of course. For most people, however, these two devices should be enough in terms of battery life, especially the Galaxy A37. Not many power users buy budget devices, so that’s something Samsung is probably counting on: Once again, the battery life is not bad, but it’s not good either. It’s passable.
The Samsung Galaxy A37 supports 45W wired charging but no wireless charging. The Galaxy A17 also doesn’t support wireless charging, but it does support 25W wired charging. The Galaxy A37 can be fully charged in about an hour and 10 minutes, while it takes the Galaxy A17 about 10 minutes more to get there. You’ll need a compatible charger, though, as neither device ships with one.
Samsung Galaxy A37 vs Samsung Galaxy A17: Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy A37 includes three cameras on the back. A 50-megapixel main camera has an f/1.8 aperture and a 1/1.56-inch sensor size. PDAF and OIS are supported. There’s also an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 1/4.0-inch sensor size. The third camera on the back is a 5-megapixel macro snapper with an f/2.4 aperture.

The Samsung Galaxy A17, on the flip side, has three rear cameras as well. A 50-megapixel main camera has an f/1.8 aperture and a 1/2.76-inch sensor size. OIS is supported here. The second camera on the back is a 5-megapixel ultrawide unit. It has an f/2.2 aperture and a 1/5.0-inch sensor size. The last camera on the back here is a 2-megapixel macro unit.
The Galaxy A37’s main camera does a visibly better job in general, and that’s especially noticeable in low light. It offers more detail and better dynamic range, while it also allows more light into the scene. Neither ultrawide camera is good, in all honesty; those are tiny sensors, and the performance reflects that. The Galaxy A37’s macro camera can be of use if the lighting is excellent, but only then.
Audio
Both smartphones do include stereo speakers. The ones on the Galaxy A37 are slightly louder, but both sets are loud enough. The sound output quality is alright, nothing to write home about, but it does the job.
There is no audio jack on either phone. You can, however, utilize their Type-C ports to connect your wired headphones. If you prefer wireless connectivity, the Galaxy A37 supports Bluetooth 5.4, while the Galaxy A17 comes with Bluetooth 5.3.
