Passwords aren’t hard to remember. But strong passwords can be tricky, which is what you’re supposed to be using for all your accounts where possible. However, we get it, some of you might use simple passwords. Unfortunately, the amount of data breaches we’ve seen over the years means there’s a good chance a password you’ve used could be floating around the web. The good news for iPhone users is that with iOS 27, Apple has updated its Passwords app to help change those passwords for you.
iOS 27 makes the Passwords app more useful
For those unfamiliar, the Passwords app is basically a password manager that stores your login credentials so you don’t have to remember them. It launched a couple of years ago and comes with features that lets you know if a password you’re using might be compromised. However, the responsibility of changing the password is entirely on you.
But with iOS 27, the Passwords app is being updated with a bit of AI help. According to Apple, it leverages agentic AI so that it will be able to change the passwords on your behalf. This removes one of the points of friction when it comes to changing passwords. If the entire process was automated, we’re sure most people would gladly update their passwords to something stronger.
That being said, it should be noted that it only works on eligible, supported platforms. This means that it might not necessarily work with every site out there. However, we think it’s still a good thing. If it means you can update your passwords to 20-30% of the websites you visit, we’ll take that win. Those might be passwords you might not have bothered to update anyway.
Developer beta
iOS 27 still does not have a fixed release date yet. However, based on Apple’s past releases, we can probably expect it around September. That being said, Apple will release a developer beta which you can check out if you have a developer account. Otherwise, you can wait for July which is when the public beta will be released.
The update will come with a host of improvements and new features, most of which seem to be under the hood. It isn’t as dramatic an update compared to iOS 26, but it is still substantial. With the release of the beta, we should come across additional changes and features Apple did not mention at WWDC 2026.
