It appears that vivo was thinking about adding a 10x periscope telephoto camera to the X500 Ultra for next year, but that has now been nixed. At least according to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo.
DCS has said that “one company in the Android camp was originally evaluating the 10X, but the last prototype was cancelled. They’re still sticking to the 200 million periscope + ISZ route.” This is almost certainly the vivo X500 Ultra, because he also confirms that OPPO is sticking with the 10X super telephoto lens solution for the Find X10 Ultra.
Recent rumors have pointed to the Find X10 ultra sporting a 6.89-inch 2K LTPO OLED display, 7000mAh+ battery, and a next-generation 200MP Samsung HPA LOFIC primary camera sensor.
vivo ditching the 10x telephoto camera is probably a good thing
With the current generation of Ultra’s from vivo and OPPO, vivo actually clears OPPO’s 10x telephoto camera, without even having a 10x telephoto camera. Their telephoto camera is 3.7x, which means it is sensor cropping to 10x, and still outperforms what OPPO has. Keep in mind that the 3.7x lens is a 200MP sensor, so there’s quite a bit of in-sensor zoom that can be done here, without losing details.
vivo is still going to put out an epic camera phone with the X500 Ultra. The company has been on a roll in recent years with these devices, and we don’t see that stopping anytime soon. In fact, the X300 Ultra has been my camera of choice for different events, like Google I/O last month. It’s the most versatile camera phone that I’ve seen in quite some time. So, how this improves with the X500 Ultra will be very interesting.
DCS also mentioned that both devices are scheduled to launch in the first half of 2027, after the Find X10 and X500 series phones launch in the Fall. The same sort of schedule we’ve seen in the past few years for both companies.
