One of the main drawbacks of the Nintendo Switch 2 and really any more modern, powerful handheld, is the battery life, but thanks to the new Gaming Charging Grip from Belkin, this can be an issue that stays in the past for the Nintendo Switch 2. This is a new shell/grip/power bank combo that allows you to squeeze more game time out of the Switch 2 in a super convenient way.
The shell attaches to the main portion of the console: The part with the display. There are also grip add-ons for the joy-con controllers, with actual grips for your fingers and a more ergonomic feel overall. Then there’s the battery pack that attaches to the shell via magnets, and you can then plug the battery pack into the Switch 2’s top USB-C port. It’s all wrapped up in a nice and neat little package, and makes for a very convenient way to keep the console powered up beyond its normal limits.
Belkin is also releasing a companion cross-body sling to carry the Switch 2 and this new accessory, as well as a few other Switch 2 must-haves like games in addition to things like your keys and wallet. While the cross-body sling is a nice extra, I wouldn’t consider it a must-have like the charging grip. It’s worth noting that Belkin is not the first brand to release an accessory like this for a handheld, or even the Switch 2. However, I think it has perhaps released the most well-done version of this type of accessory.
The Belkin Gaming Charging Grip for Nintendo Switch 2 launches at $99.99
At $100 and the rising cost of everything these days thanks to the memory crisis, it might be hard for some to swing that extra money on an accessory for the Switch 2. That being said, if there was one accessory you were going to save up some money for, this would be a good one to do it with. The battery pack features a 10,000mAh battery cell inside. This allows it to charge the Switch 2 up to 1.5 times before it needs to be recharged itself. That means when you factor in a fully charged Switch 2, you’re getting nearly three times the original battery life. That’s pretty good.
Belkin sent over the grip for me to test and I’ve been giving it a shot to see how it works, and the whole thing is a rather elegant build that does what it sets out to do: extend play time. There are drawbacks, of course. With the battery pack attached, the Switch 2 does become heavier, and you can feel that when you’re holding it. This didn’t bother me too much, but it might bother others more. Just know that the Switch 2 isn’t going to feel as light with this thing on.
Another (very minor) drawback is the grips. They’re nice, and quite comfortable to hold. But I don’t feel like they surpass the Joy-Lock Grips from Dbrand which is what I was using before this accessory came in. Still, as an all-inclusive package, this is a solid accessory that anyone who owns a Nintendo Switch 2 should at least consider. The Gaming Charging Grip is $99.99 and comes in three colors, which are Black, Lavender, and Olive. The travel bag comes in matching colors and retails for $49.99. You can also get the case and grips without the battery pack for $39.99, but it’s worth it to get the battery pack.
