When you think of your Pixel Watch, you likely also think about the Fitbit name when you’re thinking directly about health and fitness stuff. That’s because after Google bought Fitbit years ago, it stated wrapping the Fitbit app up in all the Pixel health-related functions. This was all a means to an end though, it seems, as Google started phasing out the Fitbit brand name for its health software on phones and wearables. Everything will now be referred to as Google Health. The only Fitbit branding remaining will be on the actual fitness trackers.
Such as the Fitbit Air. This released back in late May. The app, however, has been renamed. And these changes just started to hit the Pixel Watch series devices this week.
The Fitbit name has disappeared from the Pixel Watch entirely
No more Fitbit app, and no more Fitbit branding. It’s been replaced with Google Health and it’s starting with Pixel Watch devices this week. A new report from 9To5Google points out the changes. Sure enough, this removal of Fitbit from the Pixel Watch series has shown up my own Pixel Watch 4, as well as my Pixel 10 Pro. Interestingly enough, the Fitbit app was still visually present on my phone for the past several weeks, and notifications were coming in as Fitbit. But that all changed the moment the app was opened this morning, and it promptly replaced with Google Health.
The same holds true for the watches. If you haven’t seen this change on your watch yet, expect it to happen before too long as it seems to be a wide rollout. In addition to the removal of the Fitbit name on Pixel Watch devices, Google has also changed the icon of the ECG app. This is an admittedly minor change. But it is a visual change that will help users. Mainly because the color is now red and will probably be quicker to spot as you scroll through apps.
