Samsung is giving its digital wellness platform one of its biggest updates in years. Ahead of the highly anticipated Galaxy Watch 9 series launch, the tech giant announced a major, AI-first redesign of the Samsung Health app. The revamped interface uses AI to translate daily biometric data into easy-to-understand, actionable insights.
Samsung Health app gets major update, preparing for 2026 Galaxy Watches
Starting June 8, users will see a brand-new home screen that reorganizes information into five main pillars. The list includes Activity, Sleep, Nutrition, Mindfulness, and Vitals. The app will display daily wellness tips and your AI-generated Energy Score right up front.
Among the headline additions is a new Vitals feature that heavily mirrors functionality found on the Apple Watch. This tool automatically analyzes five key overnight biometric signals—heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen levels—against your personal baseline. To keep you from getting overwhelmed by constant notifications, the app will only alert you about significant deviations. This can serve as an early warning that you might be getting sick.
Samsung is also focusing heavily on exercise optimization. A new Daily Cardio Load metric measures recent cardiovascular strain to help fitness enthusiasts maximize training capacity without hitting burnout or risking injury. Meanwhile, a Fitness Index tool evaluates metrics like VO2 max and step counts to chart your overall strengths and weaknesses. For long-term wellness, Samsung is replacing last year’s Vascular Load metric with a comprehensive Heart Health Score. This feature blends stress, sleep, activity, and body composition data into a single daily number.
The AI approach: Learning from competitors
This update arrives at an interesting time for wearable technology. Google recently faced considerable backlash from Fitbit users after pushing a forced, AI-centric Google Health app redesign (FKA Fitbit app) that walled off beloved community features. Fortunately, Samsung is taking a less drastic approach.
The firm is not restructuring the entire user experience around an AI chatbot. Instead, Samsung is using generative AI subtly behind the scenes to create contextual summaries that explain what your health data actually means. Existing features like the Antioxidant Index and the AGEs Index remain intact. They’re just receiving upgrades like automated overnight logging and detailed trend charts. Crucially, Samsung has not hidden any of these premium tools behind a paid subscription tier.
Lastly, the company is expanding its ecosystem capabilities with a Hearing Health feature. The app will also actively protect your ears, sending alerts when the sound levels around you reach dangerous thresholds based on ambient noise exposure readings from devices such as the Galaxy Watch.
