Google is constantly at work trying to improve its core apps for a better and more polished user experience. In one such instance, it’s now making the organization of Google Drive files much easier for users. How, you ask? It’s using AI for this. After previewing it with a select number of users last year, Google has now started rolling out the “Organize My Files” Drive feature more widely.
Google Drive organization just got easier with the new automatic file-sorting feature
The new Organize My Files feature presents a “Suggest File Moves” option in the My Drive and parent folders. When clicked, it will do the heavy lifting for you by offering suggestions for moving files into new or existing folders. This will help you keep things better organized. It’ll automatically select and display file names that can be moved into existing folders. Additionally, it will also find scattered files across Drive that can be grouped into a new folder.
For users, they can also adjust suggested locations, select/deselect files, and even view files in a new tab or inside hover cards. This offers better control. Once everything is in place, tapping the “Move files” button will automatically organize files.
Available globally in English
That’s about it for Google Drive’s “Organize My Files” feature. It helps you better organize files so you don’t always go looking for something. It is available globally in English for eligible users. It’s now rolling out to users on Workspace plans, as well as users subscribed to AI plans, including Google AI Pro for Education, Google AI Ultra, and AI Expanded Access.
This comes after Google Drive has received quite a few useful updates in recent times. Recently, Google rolled out an improved document scanner in Drive. This brought a Material 3 Expressive viewfinder and a new Smart Batch Scanning feature. As the name implies, you can scan multiple pages continuously without manually capturing each page. Then there’s Auto-Best Frame, which automatically swaps blurry scans with clearer shots.
