Google Health has rolled out with a pretty rocky start, especially amongst longtime Fitbit users. Google hears you and has acknowledged the criticism. It also has a pretty lengthy roadmap with new features coming to the app. In some cases, features that were already available on Fitbit are now coming to Google Health.
One of those is actually a bug that mislabels workouts. Google says in a new post on their Support forum that the bug will be resolved this week. Another bug being fixed this week is the addition of splits to run summaries. You can check out the list of bugs and improvements they plan to make rather soon on the Google Support Forum.
Google also says that they plan “to keep the spirit of the Public Preview going and are committed to continuing to listen to feedback”. This includes adding new capabilities, fixing existing issues, and being transparent with their users.
Google’s listening, but that may not mean they’ll fix every issue
One of the bigger issues I’m seeing being discussed on social media is all of the AI slop in the Google Health app. That’s something that Google likely won’t “fix”. Though I’d love to see them move that behind its own tab, or under the blue “Ask Coach” button. Similar to what Whoop has done with the Whoop Coach.
Google is now an AI company, so it’s unlikely that they’ll make the Health Coach take a backseat to your raw fitness data. But I do think if enough people voice displeasure and opt to leave the platform, that might happen. Fitbit is still hugely popular, even in the world of smartwatches. I mean, that is why Google bought Fitbit after all.
The best advice we can give to those who want changes made to the app is to make sure to provide feedback in the app. Under most elements in the app, there is a way to provide feedback with thumbs up or down, and also three dots in the upper-right-hand corner that have an option for feedback.
