According to a new report by Omdia, the US smartphone market declined in Q1 2026. It declined by 3% YoY (Year-over-Year), to 33.4 million units. Omdia says that the decline “was pressured by a more restrained carrier upgrade environment, rising memory and storage costs, and delayed device launches that compressed sell-through for key premium models.”
The company also listed the top 5 smartphone manufacturers in the States, and their stats as well. Only one of the top 5 companies actually managed to grow YoY, so compared to Q1 2025. Let’s start from the top, though.
Apple is still untouchable, but only Motorola marked annual growth
Apple is still the number 1 smartphone OEM in the US, and it’s not even close. The company shipped 19.9 million smartphones in Q1 2026 and holds 60% of the smartphone market in the US. Its shipments did drop compared to Q1 2025, though, by 3%.

Samsung is second-placed, as expected, as the company shipped 7.9 million smartphones. It’s not even close to Apple. Samsung holds 24% of the market, and its shipments dropped by 5% YoY.
Motorola is third-placed with 3.6 million devices shipped. The company is holding 11% of the smartphone market, and it actually managed to grow compared to Q1 2025. Motorola grew by 18%, and is the only company in the top 5 that managed to do so.
Google is fourth with 0.8 million devices shipped. The company is holding 3% of the US smartphone market, as its shipments dropped by 7% YoY.
TCL is closing the top 5 list with 0.5 million shipments in Q1 2026, which is 17% less than a year ago. TCL is holding 2% of the US smartphone market.
The top 5 smartphone OEMs hold 98% of the market in the US
If you did some quick math there, you realized that only breadcrumbs are left for the rest of the companies. The top 5 companies in the US hold 98% of the smartphone market, which leaves 2% for all the others.
Omdia is forecasting that US smartphone shipments will decline 4% YoY for the full year. It remains to be seen if that’s accurate.
