It seems the stable rollout of One UI 8.5 isn’t going as smoothly as fans and Samsung itself would like. We recently reported on an issue affecting color palettes in Google apps, breaking overall consistency. Now, some Galaxy phone owners—mainly S24 and S25—running on One UI 8.5 are facing a display glitch where screen contrast shifts aggressively whenever on-screen overlay elements appear over a playing video.
Galaxy owners report video contrast bug hidden inside One UI 8.5
According to user reports on Reddit and Samsung Community, the bug appears once another UI element pops up while you’re watching a video. Galaxy owners note that everything looks completely normal until they trigger a volume change or receive an incoming notification.
Whenever the standard One UI volume slider pops up or a notification banner drops down from the top of the display, the underlying video contrast spikes noticeably. The display often shifts into a highly contrasted look or takes on a distinct gray tint. The moment the notification banner retreats or the volume graphic disappears, the video instantly snaps back to its original color calibration (1, 2).
The shifting does not permanently crash the media player. Still, the constant flickering back and forth can make watching movies or clips a frustrating experience—especially if you get multiple messages at once.
Waiting for an official patch
So far, users have confirmed the presence of the bug on Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S24 devices. However, we cannot yet confirm that it is a widespread issue, as the reports on this matter are still limited. Because the stable One UI 8.5 expansion is still rolling out in waves across different global regions, more cases could emerge in the coming days.
Samsung has not yet acknowledged the bug. Because the problem triggers automatically through native background system tasks like notifications, users cannot easily disable the root cause without sacrificing basic phone functionalities. For now, affected Galaxy owners will have to deal with the intermittent visual jumps while waiting for the development team to isolate the display engine error and package a permanent software fix in an upcoming monthly security patch.
