One of the cooler and more useful features of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is its privacy display. When enabled, this prevents people looking from the side to peek at your phone’s screen. Now, it looks like Apple has plans to bring a similar privacy display to its MacBook Pro lineup either later this year or next year.
Apple to bring privacy display to MacBook Pro
This is according to a recent report from Schrodinger Intel, who claims that Samsung’s Privacy Display tech could be used by Apple in its M6 MacBook laptops. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s not the first time we’re hearing about this.
Back in February, there was a rumor that Apple could use these displays in future MacBook laptops. However, the rumor back then suggested we were still years away from that happening, with an estimated arrival of 2029. But now, this new report suggests that it could land either this year or maybe next year.
The timeline is a bit unclear at this point. This is because Apple is expected to debut the M6 chip later this year. But it has also been suggested that this feature could be exclusive to the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips. Since Apple doesn’t always release the full chip lineup at once, there is a possibility that we could get the base M6 this year. It could then be followed by the Pro and Max variants next year. Either way, it’s still a lot sooner than 2029.
Samsung addresses issues with the tech
According to the report, one potential reason behind the pushed up launch is because Samsung has reportedly addressed complaints about the tech. When the feature launched on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, users complained about their displays getting a blue tint. They also noticed that the resolution was cut and it was uncomfortable after prolonged usage.
However, apparently Samsung has addressed those issues. This means that Samsung is now ready to take that tech and apply it to larger displays, like those of laptops. Obviously you should take this with a grain of salt for now, but it sounds rather exciting if true. One of the drawbacks of working in cafes or in public is people can easily see over your shoulder, whether intentional or not. Having a privacy display to block unwanted eyes could be very beneficial.
