As it turns out, Sony isn’t just raising the price of PlayStation Plus Essential, as both the Extra and Premium plans saw an official increase this week as well. Sony confirmed that as of May 20, PlayStation Plus Essential would be going up from $9.99 a month to $10.99 a month. It also confirmed that the three-month plan would be going up, changing to $27.99 a month.
This is all the tweet mentions in terms of price changes. So players (rightfully) assumed that the Extra and Premium plans would be staying the same. However, that isn’t the case, as Sony increased prices of both those tiers as well once May 20 hit.
PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium both get a price increase
Naturally, you can imagine that some gamers won’t be too thrilled with the price increase of these other two plan tiers. More so because of the fact that it wasn’t communicated by Sony that the price changes were happening. It is worth noting that the post does say prices “start at” before mentioning the prices for the Essential plan.
That being said, it seems most people feel it was implied that only the Essential tier was changing. So, chalk this one up to poor communication that wasn’t clear enough. For those who haven’t already noticed, PlayStation Plus Extra will now cost $16.99 a month, or $43.99 for three months. Premium, meanwhile, will be $19.99 a month, or $54.99 for three months.
As with the Essential plan, the annual prices are unchanged. It’s also worth noting that these price changes do not impact existing subscribers except for in Turkey and India, unless you let your subscription lapse or you cancel it and come back to it later.
