AT&T is announcing a new plan that it’s calling the Build-A-Plan which will let subscribers adjust their monthly plan and bill based on their changing needs. Life shifts things around all the time. Sometimes you buy more groceries one month than you do another month. You might use up more gas in the Summer than you do in the Spring. On the same token, you might need more cellular data from your smartphone carriers one month than you do another. That’s why AT&T is coming out with this Build-A-Plan option.
It’s essentially a modular plan that lets you start with a standard base, and you can slap on a data add-on as you see fit. Or you could leave it off entirely if there’s one month you don’t think you’ll need it. At its core it’s about giving customers more choice.
The AT&T Build-A-Plan starts at just $15 a month
So there’s some real potential for the plan to be dirt cheap here, because it starts at just $15 a month. For that price you’re getting unlimited talk, unlimited text, and 1GB of data. Now, 1GB of data is not a lot. You can go through that very quickly. However, not everyone uses the internet on their phones all the time. For example, if you work from home and your phone is always connected to Wi-Fi, then there’s little chance you’ll ever use a lot of data away from home.
But let’s say you start to use more data down the line. Not a problem. Data add-ons starts at $5 a month on top of the base $15, and you can change them month-to-month as you need to. For $5 extra, you get 5GB of data. Bumping up to $10 gets you 15GB. Or you could go all out and go with the $20 or $35 add-ons, which are both unlimited data. The difference is that the $35 plan comes with UHD (4K) streaming and the $20 plan is only SD. You might want to go with UHD if you’re streaming a lot of 4K content on Netflix or other streaming services.
AT&T is also offering add-ons for hotspot data that start at $5 and go up to $20. AT&T confirms that these new plans will become available as of May 27, so they come out next week. You’ll be able to set them up online.
