One of the most useful features of the Google Pixel is its ability to handle missed calls with “Take a Message.” Beyond just recording record audio, this tool answers for you, detects spam, and provides real-time transcripts so you can read what a caller wants without listening to a single second of audio. While it has been a Pixel-exclusive perk for years, new findings suggest that Google is ready to share its “Take a Message” technology with third-party Android devices.
Google’s Take a Message smart voicemail could expand to other Androids
The latest discoveries come from Android Authority. They found code snippets inside the latest version of the “Phone by Google” app point toward a major shift. A specific piece of code, curiously named “Beesly” (the internal codename for the feature), explicitly mentions support for “Non-Pixel” devices.

This means that if you own a Samsung, Motorola, or Xiaomi phone but use the Google Phone app as your default dialer, you might soon see this smart voicemail option in your settings. We still don’t know exactly which devices will qualify. However, the tech seems compatible with most modern mid-range and flagship smartphones.
A massive global expansion
Currently, “Take a Message” is only present in a handful of English-speaking countries. However, the leak reveals that Google is preparing to flip the switch in over 20 new markets.
The company’s plans would involve two categories. Some territories, like Mexico, Malaysia, and Singapore, could first launch an audio-only version. Meanwhile, countries like Spain, Germany, France, Italy, and Japan might get the full experience. There is even a specific mention of the feature targeting the Indian market.
The hidden features in the code indicate that a release could be imminent. If you are tired of robocalls and checking old-school voice messages, this update might be the best thing to happen to your Android phone this year.
