As many of you know by now, both Apple and Samsung will launch wide foldable smartphones this year. Apple’s is expected to arrive in September, while Samsung will launch its own in July.
Having said that, OPPO has been rumored to deliver a wide foldable as well this year. We don’t know much about it at this point, though. Based on a new rumor, two additional companies are working on such devices.
Vivo and HONOR are also working on wide foldable smartphones
Smart Pikachu, a well-known tipster, claims that Vivo is developing a wide foldable smartphone. The upcoming Vivo X Fold 6 will not be such a device, but it will bring a less noticeable crease, he said. He did not clarify whether Vivo’s wide foldable will arrive this year.
The second source, Guan Tongxue GiM, claims that HONOR is also working on a wide foldable smartphone. He claims that this has been the case for quite some time now. He also shared a possible design of the device, though note that this is just a concept.

This particular representation of a phone has three cameras and a secondary screen on the back. It has a wider form factor, but it’s not a tablet-like display experience like the iPhone Ultra and Samsung’s wide foldable will deliver. It remains to be seen if HONOR will go down this road. HONOR’s wide foldable is tipped to arrive in Q1 2027.
Vivo’s offering will likely be a book-style wide foldable
Vivo’s wide foldable, on the other hand, will probably resemble more what Samsung and Apple are about to offer; the same goes for OPPO’s wide foldable. That’s just a guess at this point, though.
Plenty of wide foldable smartphones are on the way, in case you’ve been waiting for that form factor to be properly represented. I sure have, and I do think that’s the right way to go.
