The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is one of the company’s foldable smartphones that are expected to launch during the company’s second Unpacked event of the year. It is expected to arrive alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the company’s wider book-style foldable variant, the Wide Fold aka Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. We still don’t know its name.
In this article, we’ll do our best to share as much information about the Galaxy Z Flip 8 as possible. The information will be mostly based on rumors/leaks, some of which we exclusively delivered. Some educated guesses could be a part of the article, though, just to fill in the gaps. The article will also be updated as time goes by.
This article will be regularly updated with new information on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 (this is a preview article) — both official teasers and credible leaks, rumors, and insider claims — as it becomes available in the run-up to the release of the upcoming Android smartphone. This is the initial publishing of the article, updates are coming.
When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 be released?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 will become official during the second ‘Unpacked’ event Samsung is preparing for this year. July 22 is rumored as the event date, and London as the venue city. That is just a rumor at this point, though. Last year’s Unpacked event, during which the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 arrived, took place in July. Either way, you can count on the phone arriving in Q3 this year.
What models are coming?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to arrive in one RAM model and two storage options, just like its predecessor. Samsung is rumored to deliver a 12GB RAM Galaxy Z Flip 8, with either 256GB or 512GB of internal storage. The company will use either UFS 4.0 or UFS 4.1 storage here, but probably the former. You will not be able to expand that storage, so choose wisely.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 cost?
What about the price? Well, thus far, rumors have been pointing at the same price tag as for last year’s model. That means that the 256GB storage variant of the phone will cost $1,099, while the 512GB model will set you back $1,219 in the US. In other markets, the price tags will vary, of course.
What will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 look like?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 design is no longer a secret. The phone’s CAD-based renders surfaced, courtesy of OnLeaks and mymobiles, to reveal what’s coming. More design leaks are expected in the near future, but for now, CAD-based renders are it. You can check them out in the gallery below, there are a handful of them. Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will look very similar to the current-gen model, the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
The main display has rather thin bezels around it, and they’re raised to protect the display while folding. They’re uniform, by the way. There is also a centered display camera hole up top. The frame is mostly flat, and the power/lock and volume up and down buttons are on the right side. The frame will be made out of aluminum, by the way.
The camera layout will basically stay the same
The backplate of the device is flat, and Samsung will once again use glass. There are two horizontally aligned cameras in the top-left corner of the phone’s back. They’re placed inside the cover display itself, and they do protrude on the back. The LED flash sits right next to the cameras, to the right. The display itself is quite large for what it is, and it stretches down to where the hinge is (middle of the phone), as it did on the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
The dimensions did change a bit, compared to the current-gen model, but not by much. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 measures 166.8 x 75.4 x 6.6mmw hen unfolded, and 85.4 x 75.4 x 13.2mm when folded. Well, based on CAD renders.
What specs will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 have?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 is said to utilize the Exynos 2600 chip. That is not surprising, as the Galaxy Z Flip 7 was fueled by the Exynos 2500 processor. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, on the other hand, will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. There is still a chance that the Flip 8 will arrive in a Snapdragon version as well, in some markets, but that doesn’t look likely. That chip will be backed by 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, allegedly, and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 or UFS 4.1 flash storage. The storage will not be expandable, though.
It will be lighter than its predecessor
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is also rumored to be lighter than its predecessor. It will weigh 180 grams, allegedly, while the Galaxy Z Flip 7 weighs 188 grams. A slightly wider frame is expected too, and an even less visible crease than its predecessor. The phone is said to be thinner than the Galaxy Z Flip 7 as well. The battery capacity will not see a boost, unfortunately, as a 4,300mAh capacity is tipped. The same goes for charging, as 25W wired charging will be utilized here, allegedly.
There will be no change in the camera hardware
What about the cameras? Well, the phone is expected to retain the same 50-megapixel main camera as its predecessor, and the same goes for a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera. Even the selfie camera will remain unchanged, as a 10-megapixel unit will be used. It’s a shame, as this camera hardware is not exactly the most modern around.
Should you wait to buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 will be even less of a change from last year’s model than the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The phone will retain a very similar design, the same cameras, the same battery capacity, the same charging speed, and so on. Yes, it will be more powerful, but that’s the biggest upgrade here, it seems, at least based on what we know thus far. If you own the Galaxy Z Flip 7, upgrading to this year’s model doesn’t make all that much sense.
