Elon Musk may be preparing to build a massive semiconductor fabrication plant near the Texas A&M campus, just outside Bryan-College Station.
His Space Exploration Technologies Corp. company has requested a tax abatement for the Terafab project from Grimes County. The Austin Business Journal said Musk tweeted on X that the Grimes County location is among several sites under consideration for the Terafab project.
Reports indicate the initial capital investment was pegged at $55 billion, with an estimated total of $119 billion if additional phases are constructed.
The idea behind the plant is to build enough high-powered, specialized chips to power millions of humanoid robots, vehicles and space travel.
