When you travel to a new country, more often than not it is cheaper to buy a local SIM rather than pay for roaming. Yes, there is the convenience of using roaming, and you don’t have to deal with popping the SIM card out or fiddling with software. However, it might actually be more expensive, and your call, texting, or data allowance might not be as generous. If you are planning a trip to the US, T-Mobile has announced a new prepaid US pass that could be worth checking out.
T-Mobile launches new prepaid US pass for travellers
T-Mobile’s new prepaid US pass targets travelers planning to come to North America. It will give visitors a way to stay connected without it being ridiculously expensive or signing a contract. It’s also not limited to just the US, despite the name.
T-Mobile says the pass covers three countries: the US, Mexico, and Canada. You get unlimited talk, text, and 5G data in the States. Plus 5GB of data in each of the other two. All four plans include 50GB of premium data in the US and high-speed hotspot data. That means you can tether a laptop or tablet without burning through your phone’s allotment.Â
There are four different plans available. This includes a 7-day plan priced at $25, a 10-day plan at $30, a 14-day plan at $35, and a 30-day plan priced at $50. Hotspot data scales with the plan. It starts from 14GB on the 7-day option up to 50GB on the 30-day option. You can activate it digitally through T-Mobile’s website.
This means there is no paperwork and you don’t need to visit a store in-person to do it. The carrier is also throwing in travel perks like dining rewards and rental car discounts.

International travelers have long dreaded roaming charges, and for good reason. We’ve come across multiple stories over the years where people have come home to bills in the tens of thousands of dollars. Just from spending a few weeks abroad. This is why having a flat-rate prepaid option is a good idea. You no longer have to worry about surprise charges when you get home because you forgot to activate your plan before you left.
