If you have been struggling with a sluggish Galaxy XR lately, there is finally some good news. Many users reported a bug that caused severe performance problems after a certain period of use. Fortunately, Google just released a critical software update designed to fix the memory leak that has been making the Samsung Galaxy XR headset almost impossible to use for many.
Google patches the Galaxy XR: No more diving frame rates and poor performance
The trouble started back in April following a routine software update. Soon after, users began noticing that their headsets were becoming increasingly slow after just 20 or 30 minutes of use. This happened because the system’s memory usage would climb steadily until it hit total capacity.
At that point, the experience would fall apart. Frame rates would drop significantly, making the device feel laggy and unresponsive. Google quickly acknowledged that this was a top priority, and it seems they worked fast to get a solution out the door.
The fix is here
Grace Yang from Google’s community team recently announced that version I610UEU2AZD8 is now rolling out to users. While the company hasn’t released a detailed list of every single change, they confirmed that the update includes several system stability and performance optimizations based directly on user feedback.
Early reports from the community suggest the patch is doing its job. Many users have noted that the frustrating tracking hitches and lag are gone. However, it isn’t perfectly smooth sailing for everyone just yet. Some people using the Virtual Desktop feature are reporting a new glitch where moving the cursor causes frames to look garbled or corrupted.
How to update your headset
To get your performance back to normal, you should install the patch as soon as possible. You can check the availability of the update from Settings > Software Update > Download and install.
If you were considering setting your Android XR headset aside out of frustration, this update should make it worth picking up again.
