It was earlier reported that Google may be working on a lock screen notes feature for Android. Now, a new finding suggests Google Keep is working on lock screen notes support. Users will soon be able to take notes directly from the lock screen, without unlocking their phones. Its arrival could make the note-taking experience on Android much better and more convenient.
Google Keep is bringing lock screen notes to Android
As per a finding by Android Authority, clues about the feature can be spotted on the version 5.26.181.01.90 of the Google Keep app. The option can be seen buried under settings. However, since it’s not released publicly yet, the feature doesn’t work or do anything yet. Trying to turn it on pops up a simple “Coming soon” message. This suggests that Google is already working on the feature behind the scenes.
As said earlier, Google has been working on the feature for quite some time now. Back in 2013, Android 14 added a new developer option that allowed users to set a default notes app and link it to a lock screen shortcut. Though Google Keep could be selected as the shortcut app, it did not fully support the feature. Users were prompted to update the app to allow support. However, the supposed update never arrived.
No more unlocking the phone every time you want to take notes
One of the biggest advantages of the feature is that it allows users to take notes directly from the lock screen. The string code found inside the app mentions “Lock screen notes with Google Keep.” Any note created this way would be saved automatically in the app. Users could also choose if triggering the option starts a new note each time or continues the same one for a set period, such as a few minutes, a couple of hours, or even the whole day.
Moreover, keep in mind that there is no official word from Google on when the feature will be released. For now, it remains a work in progress, but it could make Google Keep much more useful if it finally rolls out.
