‘Samsung just announced the next generation of smartphone screens at SID Display Week 2026 in Los Angeles. More specifically, Samsung Display unveiled its Flex Chroma Pixel and a health-tracking OLED Sensor. The company’s new panels promise to be much brighter and more colorful than what we currently carry in our pockets.
Samsung Display’s Flex Chroma Pixel is new standard for color and brightness
The Flex Chroma Pixel will be the company’s biggest reveal for the event. This display tech addresses the common issue of color accuracy dropping when brightness increases. Samsung has solved this problem by using a new material called Phosphorescent Sensitized Fluorescence (PSF) and its own LEAD technology.
This combination allows the panel to hit a staggering 3,000 nits of brightness while covering 96% of the BT.2020 color space. For context, most modern smartphones only cover about 70% of this standard, which is roughly 1.7 times broader than the DCI-P3 color gamut used in current high-end devices. Overall, the technology should offer richer, more life-like colors even in direct sunlight.

The screen as a health monitor
Samsung also showcased a 6.8-inch OLED Sensor that turns the display itself into a biometric tool. The screen can measure blood flow to track heart rate and blood pressure thanks to embedded organic photodiodes. This removes the need for separate sensors yet still maintains a sharp 500 PPI resolution typical of flagship phones.
There’s also Flex Magic Pixel, a privacy-focused display technology. It basically hides sensitive health metrics from anyone looking at your phone from a side angle. Meanwhile, the rest of the content remains visible to you. If this sounds familiar, it’s because the Galaxy S26 Ultra offers something similar with its Privacy Display feature.
When will we see it?
While these technologies were the stars of SID Display Week 2026, not all of them are yet available in consumer devices. However, given Samsung Display’s history, we should see them in future Galaxy S and Z series smartphones. In fact, Flex Magic Pixel is already available in a mainstream commercial product.
