The built-in microphones on our phones or digital cameras aren’t that great. They’re functional, and for the most part they’re very usable. But are they the best at capturing audio? Maybe not, which is where external microphones come in handy. If you’re looking for one that won’t break the bank, DJI has announced the Mic Mini 2.
DJI Mic Mini 2 comes in new fun colors
For those unfamiliar, DJI has several microphones in its product lineup. There’s the Mic Mini, the DJI Mic Mini 2’s predecessor. Then there’s also the more expensive DJI Mic. If you’re not looking to go pro, or if you’re on a budget, the Mic Mini is a great choice, and now there’s a newer version that could be worth checking out.
For starters, the most obvious difference here is that DJI has gone with some fun colors. There’s a translucent front cover that’s available in a few bright colors. It’s reminiscent of Apple’s iMac G3. The microphone itself weighs 11g by itself. You also get to choose how you want to wear it, either with a clip or a magnet for easy take-on and take-off.
The Mic Mini 2 also supports GFSK 2Mbps wireless and Bluetooth 5.3, 2.4GHz to 2.4835GHz frequency. The transmission range is also rated for up to 400 meters with two transmitters and one receiver, or 300 meters with just the mobile receiver, or up to 200 meters in mixed mode.
The transmitter has a 114mAh battery, which is rated for about 11.5 hours and fully charges in 70 minutes. The receiver is good for 10.5 hours with a 170mAh battery. Combined with the charging case, you should be able to squeeze up to 48 hours.
Pricing and availability
If the DJI Mic Mini 2 is something you’re interested in, it is priced starting at €59. This includes the charging case, wireless receiver, and a mic transmitter. However, there are additional bundles that go up to €99, which has a bigger receiver, more transmitters, and a larger charging case. But even then, at that price it’s not too bad.
That being said, if you live in the US, you might want to hold your horses. Due to DJI being placed on the US government’s “Covered Lists,” many of the company’s newer products cannot be imported and authorized for sale in the US. So, if you want one, your best bet would be to buy it in another country.
