The Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 is now available for Pixel devices. This update follows the last Android 17 Beta build that arrived last week. “Android 17 QPR1 Beta continues with the next round of Beta updates for our September Feature Drop release,” says Google.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 1 arrives for Pixel 6 and all newer devices
This update can be installed on all Pixel phones from the Pixel 6 and up, and also on the Pixel Tablet. You do need to enter the Android Beta Program, though, and from there you’ll be able to download this update.
Be warned, this is a beta build, so not everything may work as intended. If you’re using a device you’d like to install this to as your daily driver, we’d advise against it, as per usual when it comes ot test builds. That is especially true now, as this is the first Android 17 QPR1 beta build.
The release notes are quite short
Now, the release notes that Google released are… well, not that special. They’re short and list bug fixes. A fixed crash in the Default Print Service is listed. That problem was occurring during low ink conditions that prevented users from completing print jobs.
An issue with the Terminal app triggering an Application Not Responding (ANR) error that resulte din teh applicaiton and device becoming unresponsive has also been sorted.
Google also resolved an issue where uncontrollable hardware audio processing on the voice communication path caused distortion and phase cancellation in VoIP applications.
Direct audio output was sometimes failing to open on devices using the AIDL audio HAL when playing audio streams longer than five seconds. That problem has been resolved now as well.
A bunch of Pixel devices are supported
Considering that all devices from the Pixel 6 series are supported, that’s quite a list. It includes: Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, as well as the Android Emulator.
