Seabrook Land Company was awarded the grand prize at the 2026 CNU Charter Awards, which honor urban design and placemaking.
The award recognizes more than two decades of efforts that brought together architects, planners, engineers, and a developer to build an entirely new town from the ground up. The coastal town of Seabrook, Washington, was selected from 79 submissions across 10 countries.
Seabrook’s Transect-based planning was cited as a replicable blueprint for rural coastal communities nationwide. 640 homes have been completed across a walkable, architect-designed town center with 40,000 square feet of local retail and restaurants. Additionally, a $150 million expansion is now underway, adding a hotel, spa, community center, school, and a regenerative farm supplying the town’s restaurants
Seabrook to 2,100 homes across 588 acres, with nearly half the land preserved as forest, wetland, and stream corridors.
