Microsoft is issuing a price drop for the Xbox Game Pass service effective immediately after backlash from consumers following the increased prices of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox PC Game Pass last October. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate initially launched at $14.99 a month, a great value in the gaming space that quite honestly was worth it for anyone who had a PC and/or an Xbox console. Microsoft then raised the price to $19.99 a month a few years later, and raised it once again to $29.99 a month on October 25, 2025. Since that price increase, gamers have let their feelings be known.
This was an astronomical increase and it devalued the service. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, a service that was once one of the best values in gaming, was simply too much money for a lot of people to justify that monthly expenditure. Enter Asha Sharma. The new head of Xbox has confirmed today that Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass will be dropping in price to make the service more affordable.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate gets a price drop to $22.99 a month
The new lower price of Game Pass Ultimate is $22.99 a month. Keep in mind, this is still higher than the first price increase to $19.99, and well above the original price of $14.99. Even after shaving off $7, it’s still going to be more than people are willing to spend. Everything is more expensive now. As good of a deal as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate used to be, no doubt there will be many who feel there are more important ways to spend their money.
In addition to the price drop for the Ultimate tier, Sharma also confirms that PC Game Pass will come down in price as well. It will now cost $13.99 a month, down from $16.49 a month. This is up from its launch price of $9.99 back in 2019. The price drops aren’t the only change coming. Microsoft is also pulling Call of Duty titles from Day-1 access on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Now, they won’t hit the service until the following year. This only applies to future Call of Duty titles, like the one coming out this Fall.
