Huawei has officially pulled back the curtain on its latest flagship contenders: the Pura 90 Pro and the Pura 90 Pro Max. This new series blends a nostalgic aesthetic with some of the most ambitious camera hardware we have seen in the mobile industry to date. Today the company also announced the Huawei Pura X Max, the first wide foldable available on the market, ahead of Samsung and Apple.
Huawei Pura 90 Pro Max wants to claim the camera crown
Visually, the Pura 90 series makes an immediate impression. Huawei has opted for a flat frame and a distinctive triangular camera island. However, the real star is the return of gradient color schemes. Reminiscent of the fan-favorite P30 series, these phones actually shift their shades depending on how the light hits them.
The Pura 90 Pro Max comes in striking options like Orange Ocean and Sunset Purple. On the other hand, the Pura 90 Pro offers playful tones like Pink Guava and Orange Soda. Despite their sleek looks, both devices are built for durability. They feature second-generation scratch-resistant Kunlun Glass and a dual IP68/69 rating for water, dust, and high-pressure resistance.
The 200MP periscope zoom
As is tradition for Huawei, the camera system takes the headlines. The Pura 90 Pro Max introduces a massive 200MP periscope telephoto sensor. With a 1/1.28-inch sensor size and 4x optical zoom, it is designed to maintain incredible detail even in low-light environments.
The main shooter is just as impressive, with a 50MP RYYB sensor with LOFIC technology and a 10-stop variable aperture (f/1.4 to f/4.0). This allows the camera to physically adjust how much light it takes in, much like a professional DSLR. A 40MP ultrawide module rounds out the Pro Max’s triple-lens array.
The Pura 90 Pro follows closely with its own 50MP main camera and a capable 50MP telephoto lens, also offering 4x optical zoom. Both phones utilize the XMAGE imaging system to deliver true-to-life colors and sharp processing.
Performance
Under the hood, both models run on the in-house Kirin 9030S chipset. Huawei claims this processor significantly boosts AI performance, specifically improving image understanding by 200% and telephoto clarity by 110%.
To power these features, Huawei has packed both phones with massive 6,000 mAh batteries. They support blistering 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. Plus, they can even reverse-charge other devices at 18W via a cable—handy for a friend in need of a quick top-up.
On the software side, the series debuts HarmonyOS 6.1. This version includes a native agentic AI assistant and advanced image editing tools that allow for seamless object removal and content generation directly within the camera app.
Display and pricing
The viewing experience is handled by LTPO OLED panels with a smooth 1-120Hz variable refresh rate. The Pro model features a 6.6-inch screen, while the Pro Max reaches a 6.9-inch display size. For the first time, Huawei has also included an anti-reflective coating on the glass to improve visibility outdoors.

The series is launching first in China, with sales scheduled to begin on April 29. All prices and variants are below.
