The Sony Xperia 1 VIII could launch sooner than expected. A Sony smartphone has popped up on the FCC, and it’s marked by the PY7-30515Z number. We cannot be 100% sure this is the company’s upcoming flagship, but it makes sense.

Why it makes sense? Well, the phone comes with wireless charging, and the only Sony phone that we’re expecting to offer wireless charging, in the near future, is the Sony Xperia 1 VIII.
This FCC listing became available on April 17. In other words, it comes much sooner than for the Xperia 1 VII last year. Could that indicate that the launch will happen sooner than expected? Well, it’s possible.
The Sony Xperia 1 VII was announced in mid-May last year. We’re only a month away from that point, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Sony opts for mid-May again. There’s a chance it may happen sooner, though.
Sony will keep a headphone jack, it seems, as the MDR-EX15AP is used in several tests, and this headset uses a 3.5mm connector. Wi-Fi 7 is supported on the phone as well, as expected.
Its design leaked recently
As a reminder, the Sony Xperia 1 VIII design leaked not long ago. It seems like Sony will finally ditch the top and bottom bezels and opt for a display camera hole, with thin and uniform bezels around the display.
The phone will be quite squarish still, and the frame will be flat. The camera island on the back will include three cameras, two in the first row, and the third below the first one. All that will be placed on top of a camera island.
It seems like Sony will stick with a side-facing fingerprint scanner, instead of opting for an in-display fingerprint scanner. The camera shutter key will be included on the right-hand side as well.
