Last year, Trump Mobile unveiled the T1 smartphone. It was supposed to be a phone designed and made in America, but it has since faced numerous delays. Now, it looks like the Trump Phone is back but with a brand-new design, and here’s why that matters.
Trump Phone is back with a new design
The Trump administration loves boasting about bringing back jobs to America. President Trump has also enacted various policies that are supposed to protect American interests. However, what was interesting about the original Trump Phone was that based on the design, it looked like a rebranded version of the REVVL 7 Pro 5G, which was made by Wingtech, a company from China.
The irony is not lost on us, especially for an administration that seems to have engaged in a trade war with China. The new phone, however, looks different. We wouldn’t go as far as saying it looks unique or particularly interesting. In fact, The Verge notes that it shares some similarities with the HTC U24 Pro.
As for the specs, it looks like Trump Mobile has updated that as well. The specs now claim the phone features a 6.78-inch OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series chipset, 512GB of storage, and a triple camera setup on the back. This consists of a 50MP main, a 2x telephoto lens, and an 8MP ultrawide. It will also come with a 5,000mAh battery with 30W charging.
It’s hardly the most impressive phone, especially for a brand new carrier trying to launch its own branded devices. However, at a promotional price of $499, we suppose it’s relatively affordable.
Delays one after another
Despite having been announced last year, Trump Mobile has yet to release its T1 smartphone. We still don’t know when it will be released. However, the updated design and specs suggest that things are kind of moving along. In fact, the numerous delays had previously prompted the FTC to investigate. This was after numerous customers had paid a $100 deposit to reserve the device.
Also, worth noting is that the company no longer claims the phone is made in the US. Instead, it says the device was “shaped by American innovation.” It also says “American teams are helping guide design and quality.” That’s essentially what other American companies like Apple are doing, where their devices are clearly made in China, but are “Designed in California.”
