Traveling by car, train, or plane is often the start of an adventure. But for almost a third of the population, it also means the start of nausea and dizziness. Samsung is stepping in to address this issue—not with medication, but with a surprising tech-based solution. The company recently launched Samsung Hearapy, an app specifically designed to mitigate motion sickness symptoms using nothing but sound.
Samsung’s Hearapy app ends travel nausea with 60 seconds tones
Motion sickness occurs when there is a sensory conflict. That is, when your ears feel the vehicle’s movement, but your eyes are fixed on something static, like a smartphone screen. This “short circuit” in the brain creates physical stress. To solve this, Hearapy relies on research from Nagoya University in Japan.
The method is remarkably simple. Before starting a journey, the user listens to a pure 100 Hz tone for exactly one minute. According to researchers, this specific frequency stimulates the balance system in the inner ear, helping the body process movement more effectively and significantly reducing discomfort for up to two hours.
Better on Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, Samsung claims
It’s noteworthy that the app is free and available for any Android. But Samsung notes that the optimal experience is achieved with the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro (Review). The reason is technical: reproducing a 100Hz tone with total precision requires hardware capable of handling deep, clean bass.
Samsung’s latest earbuds feature a larger vibration surface and a two-way speaker system to ensure the frequency remains exact. Furthermore, their adaptive noise cancellation is crucial, as the tone works best when external sounds or music don’t interfere with the 100 Hz signal.
Already available on Play Store
The most interesting aspect of Hearapy is that it removes the need for drugs that often cause drowsiness. The app handles everything automatically: it sets the volume to approximately 85 decibels (similar to the sound of a lawnmower, but at a low frequency) and activates a 60-second timer.
The app is already available for download on Android from the Google Play Store. According to Samsung, it aims to simplify life for those who suffer during every commute.
