Everything else is getting more expensive, so why not YouTube Premium as well? Google has decided to raise the price on every tier of YouTube Premium; previously, this was only on the family plan, but the Individual and Lite plans were not spared this time around.
We’re looking at a price increase of up to $4 per month. Here’s how the pricing stacks up now:
- Individual – $15.99/month (was $13.99)
- Family – $26.99/month (was $22.99)
- Lite – $8.99/month (was $7.99)
Like usual, the Family plan is the one really getting hit with this price increase, which isn’t a surprise since you can share it with up to five additional people.
Google is starting to notify existing YouTube Premium subscribers of the price change via email. Google hasn’t actually announced the price increase yet. Google has updated the YouTube Premium website with the new pricing already.
The email Google is sending out says that “To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to $15.99/month. We don’t make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.” Google also says that the price will go into effect on your June billing date.
Another price hike, but it’s not as bad as other streaming services
Netflix recently announced a price hike across all of its plans, making it nearly $26 per month, and they don’t even allow password sharing anymore. Though Google does, which makes YouTube Premium far more worth it. Especially since you get YouTube Music included.
Inflation is hitting virtually everything lately. Though Google did just upgrade everyone on the AI Premium plan from 2TB of storage to 5TB of storage for free, with YouTube Premium, they are charging more for the same service. A bit of a weird change here, that really makes you think.
